Children who scoot to school have a brand new place to park their wheels, thanks to some cutting-edge design.

On Tuesday Haslemere primary in Mitcham unveiled Britain’s first scooter pods – playground storage facilities pupils can use to keep their scooter safe while they are in lessons.

Merton Council‘s cabinet member for the environment, councillor Andrew Judge, said the pods would encourage children to go green. He said: “Travelling by scooter, along with cycling, is one of the greenest means of getting around. As well as being good for the environment, it’s also much healthier and more sociable than travelling by car.”

The Haslemere Avenue school is within the Wandle Valley Low Carbon Zone – an area targeted by the council, the Mayor of London’s office and green charities for eco-friendly improvements.
