Scooterpods in Derbyshire

9 Apr 2013

scooterpods_tcm44-219809Schools in Derbyshire can now apply for a grant from Derbyshire County Council to cover up to 50% of the cost of cycle and scooter racks in a bid to increase the amount of children scooting and cycling to school. They hope this will increase the number of children getting active and exercising as well as cutting congestion and pollution around the schools. The number of children scooting to school is on the rise and it is hoped that with the available grants, numbers will continue to increase.

Councillor Simon Spencer, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Highways and Transport said:

“We’re commited to cutting carbon and emissions from vehicles is one of the main offenders. As well as cutting down congestion on the school run, getting children to scoot to school helps them keep active and stay healthy”

Schools can find out more about how to bid for funding for a scooter storage by contacting the county council on 01629 538156.
