Codnor Primary School celebrate win!

13 Jul 2015

Pupils at Codnor Primary School are celebrating winning a Scooterpod as part of a dinosaur themed Travel Smart make a monster move campaign to encourage active and environmentally friendly ways to travel to school.

During Travel Smart week pupils were encouraged to ‘make a monster move’ and change the way they travel to try and reduce the number of cars on the school run.

Children walked, cycled, scooted, used public transport, car shared or parked further away and walked to school. Each of these Travel Smart journeys was recorded on a Make a Monster Move dinosaur wall chart which was then entered into a prize draw.

265 schools across the county took part in Travel Smart week and Codnor were the lucky winners of the Scooterpod.

Rob Webb, teacher at Codnor Primary explains “We have been working towards our Modeshift STARS award, a national scheme to encourage children and parents to Travel Smart to school. This has included working with Derbyshire County Council and the Police to provide Scooter Smart training so children can scoot to school safely. It’s great that we have now won the Scooterpod as now we have somewhere for children to store their scooter!”

The school is now looking at ways they can fund raise to buy more Scooterpods and how to encourage more children to Travel Smart by cycling and walking to school.

As you can see, this one is already being well used! Well done to all involved.
